who we are
who we are
Vision
A re-worlded world is one that has no definition; it is ever-evolving, based on community needs. When changed communities come together, we create a re-world world, where community members are actively participating and contributing in their communities.
Mission
We aim to establish a new model for civic engagement and equitable giving, one where communities are strengthened and supported by community members themselves. We seek to empower and equip individuals with knowledge, training, and access to funds, to come together in and with their own communities to self-organize, for the purposes of collective transformation and re-worlding.
Values
We value community as a form of connection; humanity; and collective transformation. We believe collective transformation requires both inner and outer work. These values are embodied both individually and collectively, within our organization and when we are out in community.
Collaboration and non-competitiveness are also key parts of our ethos.
Vanessa Ferlaino, two-time award-winning author, host/producer, and Certified 200hr Mindfulness Meditation Teacher from The Lab of Meditation, founded The Being Human Foundation during her short time in California in 2022. We are a registered 501(c)3 non-profit with tax-exempt status. She sought a space to leverage mindfulness for collective good, to invite us to witness the interconnectedness of individual and collective humanity, so we can re-world.
We began as a small mindfulness circle practicing weekly, pooling our donations and voting on a charity to support. Since then, the organization has expanded into Canada as an incorporated non-profit in her hometown of Sault Ste Marie, the lands of the Anishnaabeg, Garden River First Nation, Batchewana First Nation, and Métis People. We are expecting charity status in 2025/2026.
The logo was designed by Daniella Ferlaino to celebrate the essence of being. The twisted stem of the flower is the root of who we are, a non-linear journey of self-discovery. It connects to the petals, stamen (reproduction organs), and the chakra-coloured crescent moon, the healed version of the Self, as a representation of the mind-body connection. "We must pay attention to our mind and body to unleash,” says Daniella, “to grow, and nourish our best Self to deepen our connection."
